שבוע העיצוב הוא יוזמה של משרד ירושלים ומורשת ושל הרשות לפיתוח
ירושלים. עשרות אירועים מופעים ותערוכות עיצוב מקומיות ובינלאומיות
הנושא השנתי שנהגה
כבר בסוף 2019 והפך לרלוונטי מתמיד הוא "קרקס הבריחה“:
אנו בורחים מתלאות היומיום אל הוירטואלי, אל הטבע, אל מקומות אחרים,
אל זהויות ותרבויות אלטרנטיביות. אנו בורחים מפרדיגמות שולטות לרגעים של עונג
טהור. אולם יותר ויותר, אנו מבינים שלאסקפיזם שלנו יש מחיר.
מתוקף תפקידו כפסטיבל, צורה אסקפיסטית כשלעצמה, שבוע העיצוב ירושלים
2021 מבקש להחיות וללבוש צורה טהורה לכאורה של אסקפיזם, לפחות במקורותיה - פסטיבל
הפסטיבלים, היכל הבידור והפלא - הקרקס הנודד. ישות טעונת קונפליקטים, הקרקס הוא
באחת פלאי ומסוכן, מכיל ונצלני, קסום וטכנולוגי, טהור ואפל. הוא ההגשמה של
הפוטנציאל האנושי, וכשהוא מתפרק, מזכיר לנו את חוסר היכולת שלנו למלא אותו. הוא
מראה לנו את פלאי העולם והטבע, בעוד הוא מזכיר לנו את המחיר שנדרש כדי להביא אותו
לפתחינו. הקרקס הוא המקום בו האסקפיזם הטהור ביותר והמציאות הקשה נפגשים. לאורך
שבוע קיומו, ״קרקס הבריחה״ יחקור את החזית הבוהקת של אסקפיזם ואת אחורי קלעיו
האפלים, ואולי אף יציע לנו רגע של נחת, כמו שעיצוב עושה לא פעם. אבל אולי, רק
אולי, הוא גם יזכיר לנו שקשה לברוח מהמציאות, ושמה שאנחנו עושים הוא תמיד השתקפות
של מי שאנחנו.

מעולם הקרקס והן מגיבות לנושא הן ברמה האוצרותית והן ברמה המרחבית: היריד, יריד
המוזרויות, חיות העולם הגדול, אחרי הקלעים, קופסאות שחורות, השיבה הביתה.
