הפארק הוקם לרווחת תושבי
המטרופולין ומבקרים מכל הארץ, והוא מציע
מגוון נרחב של פעילויות הקשורות רובן ככולן בשמירה על סביבה ירוקה. הפארק כולל שטחי טבע, ארכיאולוגיה, נחלים, תצפיות
ייחודיות, אגמים מלאכותיים ואף שטחים
חקלאיים לצד מסלולי טיול, הליכה ורכיבה על
אופניים ומגוון אזורים לשהייה בחיק הטבע.
הפארק מציע מגוון סיורי סתיו לכל
המשפחה, בימי חול ובסופי השבוע: (הסיורים בתשלום ובהרשמה מראש)
בעקבות הציפורים:
סיור למשפחות במתחם ההר מנקודת מבטן של הציפורים
בפארק, תוך הכרות עם סיפור המהפך שעבר הר הפסולת ממפגע תברואתי לפארק ירוק.
כל ילד המשתתף בסיור מקבל
משקפת מתקפלת ומגדיר ציפורים להכנה עצמית.
בעבר, כאשר הר הפסולת
עדיין היה פעיל, היו מגיעות להקות ציפורים כדי לאכול משאריות הפסולת. להקות אלו
היוו מפגע בטיחותי. כיום, לאחר שההר שוקם, ממשיכים בפארק לעקוב אחרי הציפורים אשר
מגיעות לפארק מכל רחבי העולם בתקופות הנדידה.
בפארק נצפים מדי שנה כ200
מינים של ציפורים עבורם מהווה הפארק תחנת
עצירה חשובה ביותר בנדידה - הן מגיעות אליו מאירופה אחרי מסלול תעופה מפרך שלפעמים
חוצה את הים התיכון, ולפניהן מחכה מדבר הסהרה אותו הן צריכות לעבור בלי עצירות
למנוחה.
בפארק מבצעים גם תהליך טיבוע
במהלכו, עובדי הפארק אשר להם הכשרה ייעודית – מסמנים את הציפורים באמצעות טבעת
אלומיניום שמאפשרת מעקב אחר מסלולי הנדידה של הציפורים. הנתונים שנאספים לאורך
השנים מאפשרים לזהות מגמות בתפוצה של הציפורים ולגבש המלצות בנושאי שמירת טבע בארץ
ובעולם.

הזדמנות לחוות את הטבע
המשתנה לעת ערב, לצפות בשקיעה המרהיבה על מטרופולין גוש דן ולהכיר את סיפורו
הייחודי של שיקום הר הפסולת והפיכתו לפארק ירוק.
במהלך הסיור שמים דגש על
חמשת החושים המתחדדים בחשיכה. מאזינים לקולות בעלי החיים בלילה, מריחים וטועמים את
צמחי התבלין והבושם הצומחים בהר ואת שימושיהם הייחודיים למרפא ומסתגלים לראיה בחשיכה בליווי עששיות.

בישראל :
מאז קום המדינה עד 1998
שימש הר הפסולת, חירייה, כאתר קליטת הפסולת הראשי של גוש דן. ההר התהווה וצמח לאורך
השנים בשל פיזור הפסולת, כיסויה בשכבת עפר וכן הלאה. במשך שנים ארוכות היה
"הר הפסולת של המדינה" סמל למפגע סביבתי, תברואתי ובטיחותי, עד לראשית
תהליך שיקומו במהלך שנות ה-2000. שטחו של ההר כ-450 דונם, גובהו כ-70 מטר מעל פני
הקרקע והוא מכיל כ-16 מיליון קוב פסולת – כמות פסולת שיכולה למלא את מגדלי עזריאלי
25 פעמים!
תהליך שיקום ההר נחשב
לפרויקט הנדסי ואדריכלי מורכב, המבוסס על עקרונות קיימות ופיתוח בר קיימא. פרויקט
השיקום כלל בנייה של קיר תמיכה וסוללה היקפית לתמיכת ההר ויציבותו, הטמנת מערכת
איסוף גז, הצבת מערכת איסוף וטיפול בתשטיפים למניעת זיהום נחלים, איטום מתחמים
הפתוחים לקהל על ראש ההר ושיקומם הנופי, והסטת תוואי הנחלים איילון ושפירים- גם
לצורך תמיכה במדרונות ההר, וגם על מנת ליצור אגן ניקוז שיסייע במניעת הצפות בנתיבי
איילון, כביש מספר 4 והשכונות הדרומיות של תל אביב וחולון.
הסיורים לקבוצות מאפשרים
הכרות עם הפרויקט לשיקום ההר ולפיתוח הפארק, ומתמקדים בערכים של אחריות סביבתית,
אפשרות התיקון וכוחו של חזון. הסיורים חושפים את המבקרים לעקרונות של פיתוח
בר-קיימא ושיקום אקולוגי תוך צעידה (סיורים רגליים, הכרוכים בעליה מתונה לרום ההר)
במקום מרהיב הנמצא בתהליך פיתוח מואץ.
